Speakers' Bios

  • Eric Kohn

    Eric Kohn is Chairman of Noventa. Noventa reopened the Marropino tantalum mine in Mozambique in 2010 and are now in production. A Fellow of the British Institute of Management, the Chartered Management Institute, the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Institute of Directors. Eric has had thirty years of experience in industrial marketing, manufacturing and management in Europe and the United States. In November 1987, he founded Barons Financial Services and has been the Managing Partner since its inception. Barons Financial Services specialises in a broad range of corporate finance and investment banking advisory services. Eric plays a leading role in the company, originating and executing transactions.

  • Mike Davis

    Mike Drew has been the Managing director of Ram Resources since July 2008. He has qualifications in accounting and corporate governance and has a strong commercial and corporate background with 20 years experience in the resources industry in Australia, Africa, South America and South East Asia. Mike is experienced in mining project development, joint ventures, corporate transactions and project financing. He was previously an Executive Director of ASX listed Apollo Minerals and Chief Financial Officer of Precious Metals Australia.

  • Jess Pridmore

    Jessamy Pridmore graduated from the University of Western Australia with a B. Arts and joint post graduate in French and German. After graduating, Jess focussed on translation and interpretation and translated French mining related documents for financial institutions in Australia before starting with the Intierra Head Office in Perth in June 2006. After long periods of international travel raising Intierra's global profile and client base, she officially moved to the UK in December 2009 to head up Intierra's London office and now oversees Intierra's business in the UK, Europe and Africa.

  • Gary Billingsley

    Gary Billingsley is a professional engineer and geoscientist with more than 30 years' experience in the mineral industry–24 of them in Saskatchewan. He has been an officer and director of several public mining and mineral exploration companies during the past 18 years. In addition to his experience with uranium and base-metal exploration, Gary has been directly involved with putting Saskatchewan's largest gold mine into production and, on three separate occasions, has played a major role in the discovery of diamond-bearing kimberlite.

  • Stuart Russell

    Stuart Russell is an ordinary public servant who has been serving the Western Australian government for some time. Some of his formative years were spent in Australia and having returned to the UK he has continued to serve the Western Australian Government. Stuart works on trade development and investment attraction, particularly in resources, commodities, oil and gas and renewables and clean technologies.

  • Thomas Krause

    Thomas Krause joined Chemetall Lithium Division in January 2007 and is responsible for Global Marketing Communication. An increasingly important part of his activities are public relat ions and communication for lithium supply, related to the topic of lithium ion batteries to power electric mobility. Before he joined Chemetall Thomas worked as marketing and communications manager for Herberts GmbH, Wuppertal (automotive and industrial coatings), Erbslöh GmbH, Velbert (aluminium industry); Bankakademie e.V., Frwankfurt am Main (business school) and was self employed as marketing consultant. Thomas holds a degree in economics after studying at the University of Wuppertal, Germany and the University of Aston in Birmingham, England.

  • Gerry Clarke

    Gerry Clarke, is a Mine Geologist and Applied Mineralogist and former lecturer in Applied Mineralogy at the University of Plymouth, UK. He is a former Editor for the Industrial Minerals, and an Executive Director of Metal Bulletin. Mr Clarke has written extensively across the spectrum of industrial minerals, and organised and chaired many conferences on behalf of Industrial Minerals Magazine and made numerous presentations to others' events over the years. Mr Clarke is also the compiler and publisher of the Magnesia Availability Wall Map and, in partnership with P W Harben, Inc., the creator of the Magnesia Availability Wall Map.

  • Nick Smith

    Nick Smith has 15 year's experience in the mining and media industries. Prior to this he spent 15 years working in technology consultancy with IBM, Accenture and BP Communicate.

  • John McEvoy

    Mr McEvoy has extensive experience in senior finance roles in both the public and private sector with approximately 15 years experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining Moly Mines in March 2006 as Chief Financial Officer, Mr McEvoy was the Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary for CustomVis plc, an AIM-listed surgical laser manufacturer, from August 2004 and was appointed as Executive Finance Director of CustomVis plc in March 2005. He was previously employed as Financial Controller and Company Secretary for Cable Sands Group, a mineral sands mining company, where he played a key role in the sale of Cable Sands Group to BeMaX Resources NL.

  • John Menzies

    John Menzies has more than 25 years experience in the resource sector. Mr. Menzies currently serves as the Chairman of Cmi Capital Limited. Prior to this John was Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and President of Euromax Resources Ltd and President and Chief Executive Officer of Steppe Gold Resources. John commenced his career as a Geologist, in Houston Oil & Minerals Inc. and then Amax Iron Ore Corporation Ltd. He also served as Vice President of Exploration for Carbine Gold NL. As a consultant John advised companies on projects as diverse as gold, base metals, diamonds and industrial minerals. He focused on the financial aspects of the natural resources sectors and has been involved in the successful development of mining and energy projects internationally. He has held several Non-executive Directorships including Atlantic Coal. John is also the Chairman of the SE Europe Geoscience Foundation, a not-for-profit geoscience education foundation. He is a Member of professional societies in Australia, North America and Europe. Mr. Menzies holds a BSc.(Hons) in geology.

  • Greg Pendura

    Greg Pendura has more than 35 years of experience in founding, financing and advising emerging private and public companies. Mr. Pendura spent 12 years in the public sector with Resin Systems Inc. An original founder of the company he retired in 2007 as President, CEO and Chairman of the Board. During his tenure with Resin Systems Inc., he was instrumental in the company achieving a market capitalization of over $200 million as well as raising in excess of $100 million during its formative years.

  • Peter Dickie

    Peter Dickie brings over 20 years of business experience with both public and private companies holding numerous senior management positions. A graduate of both the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria (B.C.), his background includes 4 years in the Securities industry with Jones, Gable & Co. Currently, he sits on the board of a total of six public companies, including Lateegra Gold Corp., North American Gem and others in a fiscal and management advisory capacity. Quantum are developing the Archie Lake Rare Earth Element Property located 50 kilometres east of Uranium City, Saskatchewan and 50 km south of Great Western Minerals Hoidas Lake REE Deposit.

  • Kingsley Wilson

    Kingsley Wilson spent the first ten years of his Capital Markets career as a media analyst at Daniel Stewart and Investec. In these roles he was directly involved in raising significant amounts of growth capital for numerous companies at IPO and secondary placing stages. Kingsley founded First Columbus and Chrystal Capital to offer tailored specialist financial services for companies, wealthy investors and family offices. Kingsley was educated at Eton and Cambridge.

  • James Cross

    James Cross sits on the board of directors of Adroit Resources and also serves as its Vice President of Corporate Development. He joined the company in September of 2010. Before coming into the exploration business he had a 21 year career in asset management. Most recently, he served as an external consultant to private family offices in Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia. He advised them on subjects such as asset allocation, political risk, and cross-border financial planning. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the A.B Freeman School of Business, Tulane University.

  • Anthony Dutton

    Anthony is a seasoned business executive and entrepreneur with a successful track record as an early stage investor and business founder. His areas of expertise are corporate finance, business development and strategic management. He is regularly engaged in developing strategic and financial plans for early stage and high growth companies. Anthony holds a BA in Economics from the University of British Columbia and a MBA from the Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom. Anthony is a principal at Primary Capital Group and is also a director of several public and private companies, both in Canada and the United States.

  • Peter Willis

    Peter Willis joined environmental consultants Oakdene Hollins as an Economist in October 2009 following the completion of an MSc in Economics at UCL. Since joining, Peter has had a wide portfolio of work and has been involved in numerous high profile projects and publications across several of the business areas covered by the company. In the area of metals and recycling, Peter has co-authored a number of policy reports for the UK Department of Transport, Defra, WRAP and European Commission. Most recently Peter has completed a study aimed at the investor audience on the Opportunities in Recycling Critical Raw Materials, considering their technical feasibility and economic viability with participation of an industry advisory group.

  • Robert Mackay

    Robert has worked extensive in the mining and investment industry. He has experience of various facets of mineral exploration including diamond drilling, geophysics, geological mapping & prospecting and in mining, mine planning, surveying, grade control, industrial engineering, open pit and underground production. He has also previously served as Vice President of two national brokerage firms over his career in the investment business.

    He is a graduate of the Haileybury School of Mines and has a mining engineering degree from The South Dakota School of Mines Technology.

  • Ahmet Arda

    Ahmet Arda is the Managing Director of AMR Resources Ltd - a UK company with a 100% subsidiary in Turkey with deposits for Rare Earth Minerals, Minor Metals and Thorium. AMR have a mine to market strategy and have started production at a 100t/h Capacity at its Pilot Concentrator Plant. For the last 15 years, Ahmet has been running the UK operation of AMR group's associated companies in London. Ahmet is a graduate of Birmingham University and has a Pg.Dip. from London Metropolitan University.

  • Hugh Mackay

    Hugh received a bachelor's in geology from the University of Edinburgh in 1982 and a Sloan M.Sc. in Management from London Business School in 2001. From 1982 to 2000 he held a number of staff geologist and senior management positions in respectively BP and Enterprise Oil plc, culminating as head of Enterprise's Southeast Asia division. Since 2001 he has focused on new business development and was a key figure in the growth of oil services company The Peak Group and in their $50 million trade sale to AGR AS (Norway) in 2006. Hugh is a founder of Avannaa Resources and is responsible for business development and commercial matters. Since incorporation in the UK in 2006 Avannaa has grown to become one of Greenland's leading mineral exploration companies. In West Greenland Avannaa has discovered a new rare earth element deposit and a new diamond deposit and in North Greenland Avannaa has built a leading position in a new sediment-hosted copper province.

  • Tony Harwood

    Tony is an economic geologist from the University of Wales, Cardiff in the UK with a BSc (Hons) cum laude (1979) and a PhD degree in Geology (1984).
    Tony is currently CEO and President of Montero Mining and Exploration, a mineral exploration and development company focused on rare earth elements in Africa and Canada. He is also a director of Adamus Resources, a gold company listed on the Australian and Toronto Stock Exchange, and Lappland Goldminers AB, a gold mining company listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

    Prior to joining Montero Mining and Exploration, Tony was CEO and President for Africo Resources Ltd, a Canadian exploring, acquiring and developing base metals and gold assets in Africa. From 1998 to 2006 Tony was Vice President for Global Generative Exploration and Africa-Eurasia Exploration at Placer Dome Inc. He opened Placers' Africa-Eurasia office in 1998 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and subsequently Placer acquired 2 mines in Africa (50% of South Deep and 100% of North Mara Mine in Tanzania). In 2005 Tony's exploration group announced the delineation of 17 million ounces of PGM resources in the Bushveld of South Africa.

  • André Gauthier

    André Gauthier is the CEO of Matamec. Previously he held the post of vice-president of Q.E.X. Resources Inc. (which became Adventure Gold), and secretary-treasurer and CFO of Abior Exploration Inc. (which became Exploration Diabior, then merged with Virginia Gold Mines). Andr&eacure; Gauthier is president and director of Mistassini Mineral Resources Inc., and was secretary-treasurer and CFO of Prêt à porter Subito Presto Inc., a company that worked in the manufacturing sector of medium to high-end clothing. Andre holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and has completed the required Masters courses in Project Management from the University of Quebec in Montreal.

  • Michael Schuss

    Michael Schuss, CEO of Canadian International, has over 29 years experience in mining exploration and venture capital. During that period he has worked in the trading operations of a national brokerage firm, several underground mining and surface drilling contractors as well as being director, officer and consultant to several companies. Mr. Schuss first travelled to China in 1989 and to Africa in 1993, and consulted for some of the first Canadian juniors to operate in those regions. African projects whose potential was identified by Mr.Schuss resulted in a million ounce gold deposit being developed from grass-roots exploration, and 3 separate joint ventures with a world class gold producer and two mid tier gold producers. In recent years he has specialized in acquiring mining properties in Africa, China and Canada for junior mining companies.
